Debate

Many anchors doubt some common questions before a debate, like, “As news anchors, from where we will get questions? Do we meet in writing, or do we prepare questions at that time?” How do our debates go on? Many questions like this remain in our minds based on the same subject.

The news anchors read the news by looking at the teleprompter (TP), but when debates happen, the scene is slightly reversed; the TP does not work in debates. One noticeable thing is that an inexperienced news anchor can make mistakes while sitting on the screen.

As we know, sitting for a debate is very challenging work; news channels can never be dependent on an inexperienced and fresher news anchor. It is because a debate is a responsible and risky job, and lots of people are watching us live on television or mobile screens. As a result, we are not expected to make any mistake that raises questions on that particular news channel.

The major cause for this is because a fresher news anchor doesn’t have much experience; in exchange, the news anchors like us who have knowledge and expertise can only do debates. So now the question arises what we have to do for debate and how our questions reach us.

Sometimes Debate Topic Questions Are Known To News Anchors

When we as news anchors go for debates, first of all, we already have an idea on that topic. We know how the debate will take place today; although sometimes it happens, we are not aware of it—suddenly an issue arises and the debate starts on it.

Suppose a news topic or news comes immediately, and it is actually a big news; it starts immediately, but when there are normal debates, like something that happened earlier in the morning, it has to be debated in the evening, in prime time, and then it is known that there will be discussion on this topic at 6 pm today. So we are told in advance that there will be some debates on this topic.

Now our job is to read that topic completely, to get complete information about that topic. Everything from A to Z—what the opposition has to say, what the ruling side has to say, and what other people’s reactions have come to the floor. What is the issue? If this happens, then we should be clear that we should have knowledge of all aspects and should read all.

But at the same time, the norm, which means fresher anchors, along with a few experienced anchors, also do the same. We should do this for four, five, or six years. When we have an experience of more than ten years, then perhaps we will not even need to write questions, but if we always go with a format, then it will be easy for us.

During the Debate, Different Political Parties Take Part

In order to do the debate well, we sit with a proper copy pen. We write the questions ourselves, but it does not happen that someone gives the question in writing or comes in a written TP. Now, we have been given any topic in which an opposition leader will also be there and the ruling leader will also be there and people from other parties will be there too. We have to write a script in such a way that we know what kind of questions we have to ask the opposition.

What kind of questions do we have to ask the ruling, what questions do we have to ask the political analysts who are sitting, and at the same time, what questions do we have to ask those who are sitting from the different political parties.

The four people present there have different questions; at least if we have a debate of one hour, we have to write at least five questions. That means at least we question ourselves in between. Maybe we have this much potential; then it is a different matter. Otherwise, we have to keep at least five questions in writing that, yes, we have to ask these five questions, which means for every spokesperson.

Make Sure the Debate Questions Are Being Checked By A Senior

Now we have written these questions. We will write the question; after that we can go and make sure that our questions are being checked by our seniors in our channel. We can ask them, “This is what we have prepared for today’s debate,” if we are a very new anchor, and only then. When we become seniors, then we will not need to ask.

We check to go and see whether it has been liked or not; if we find something lacking, we will be told to increase or reduce some questions accordingly. So this is how we help ourselves to prepare questions.

It also happens that while the debate is going on, many times we have not written some questions in advance, but when we are talking and debating, then some question is asked from the spokespersons who speak at that time. It becomes our responsibility to ask that question as well; it is not that we have written this question and that’s it.

If an opposition spokesperson is attacking the ruling, then we can also raise a question to maintain the balance of both sides. We ask the ruling person what they have to say about it; that means there is a debate, but it should not seem like that. We can pick up questions. So we should have this sense.

Sometimes, During Debate Anchor Not Get Chance To Ask the Noted Questions

Nothing happens in advance, like everything is already written in, and we will ask that question. Nothing like this happens; it means that when the debate starts in flow, it may happen many times that we may not have gotten a chance to ask any of those questions, but the good news anchors keep extracting answers from us with similar questions. We keep asking just like that, because sometimes the issue is a little different here, and that is very different; we go with the flow.

Conclusion

Although this should not be done. We should stick to the topic. But yes, everyone should be asked questions, and for everyone, we should also take them in writing. So TP is not received; if there is a report before the start of the debate, then the package is already prepared, the package is played, and directly after the package, the guests who are to be introduced are given to the public; after that, directly, the debate starts.

So the anchor should be alert during this, and a lot of preparation should be done related to the issue. We don’t get any questions by writing on TP; we have to prepare ourselves beforehand, and that too when we go to the debate, and only after that we debate.

I have been researching video streaming for work and this post breaks it
    down nicely. Good work.

Found this while looking up online video.
Saved me time. What you mentioned about bandwidth I can confirm from experience.

Really helpful info about streaming technology. Few people do not think about how much work
goes into this. Forwarded to a friend who deals with tech.

Quality content. Refreshing compared to the generic articles you get on this subject.

Author has experience with what they are talking about.
    Will revisit.

I work in tech and this is accurate. Particularly
the section on bandwidth pricing. Good to see someone cover this properly.

Only went through this and felt like I should say something.

Very informative. The analysis of video formats was particularly helpful.

Probably among the best pieces I have read on video infrastructure.
Straight to the point, just useful information. Good job on this.
